Building Bulletin 93 – Acoustic Design of Schools (BB93)
BB93 - Acoustic Design of Schools is the standard that deals with the building and modification of school buildings and is mandatory within Building Regulations Approved Document E (2003) requirement E4:
“Each room or other space in a school building shall be designed and constructed in such a way that it has the acoustic conditions and the insulation against disturbance by noise appropriate to its intended use.”
The key acoustic performance standards covered under Building Bulletin 93 include:
- Indoor ambient noise levels
- Airborne sound insulation
- Impact sound insulation
- Reverberation times
- Sound absorption
- Speech intelligibility
Energy Acoustics can provide both acoustic design services to ensure the building achieves the appropriate performance standards required as well as post-construction acoustic testing to demonstrate compliance to Building Control and the client.
